Ruby Bak
Mezzo-Soprano
Mezzo-soprano Ruby Bak recently graduated with distinction from the Royal Academy of Music, where she completed her Master’s degree in Vocal Performance under the tutelage of Marcus van den Akker and Joseph Middleton. She was generously supported by ABRSM as one of their scholars and is a trusted Josephine Baker Artist.
Ruby completed her undergraduate studies at King’s College London, where she was an active member of the Chapel Choir, performing in many of the UK’s most esteemed venues, including St John’s Smith Square and St Paul’s Cathedral.
As an oratorio soloist, Ruby has appeared in performances of Bach’s St Matthew Passionunder the baton of Jonathan Willcocks, Handel’s Messiah, Rachmaninov’s All-Night Vigil, and Bach’sSt John Passion at Bath Abbey. She also featured in the chamber premiere of Holst’s The Cloud Messenger with the English Chamber Orchestra.
Equally passionate about opera, Ruby has performed a range of roles including Miss Jessel (The Turn of the Screw, Britten), L’Enfant (L’Enfant et les Sortilèges, Ravel), and Hänsel (Hänsel und Gretel, Humperdinck), which she toured in Venice and neighbouring cities with the King’s College London Symphony Orchestra. Most recently, she portrayed the Fox in Janáček’sThe Cunning Little Vixen and the title role in Carmen in opera scenes at the Royal Academy of Music.
