JOINING THE SSO

We are always happy to hear from people interested in the orchestra. We strive to maintain a high standard of playing and thanks to the support of talented local musicians and non-playing members the orchestra has maintained this objective for many decades. We rehearse most weeks and perform three or more concerts each year.

If you are interested in joining as an orchestral player please do contact us. We may not have a vacancy for you but we can add you to our extras list for those occasions when we perform large scale works or have temporary gaps that need filling.

We do not hold formal auditions.

We are looking for players with orchestral playing experience preferably at post grade eight standard.

Playing members commit to the majority of rehearsals and all members pay an annual subscription fee.

If you wish to take an active role as a non-playing member there are plenty of roles especially on the concert day, or perhaps you have skills or facilities to offer that would help. If so then please do contact us.

We may require assistance with the following:

Box Office: tickets & programmes
Printing
Publicity
Flower displays
Refreshments
Stage setup etc
Transport
Pictures

Of course your financial help is of enormous value to us. Joining as a non-playing member or associate member or patron of the orchestra helps us with music and soloists and the orchestra's equipment as well as the more mundane bills. If you do not fancy that approach why not sponsor a work or a concert or a soloist – or just a one-off donation or perhaps consider a bequest to us in your will.
